The January transfer window is going to bring with it a raft of rumours and speculation over some of the most in-demand players in football with Antoine Semenyo leading the way. According to new reports, Chelsea have made an enquiry in a bid to snatch the attacker away from their Manchester counterparts.
Ben Jacobs has reported that the Blues have made initial enquiries about the availability of the left winger. Despite downplaying any interest in the attacker, the club have started making moves despite it being noted that Manchester City and Manchester United are currently leading the race for the Bournemouth forward.
This comes after Jamie Gittens was unceremoniously dropped from the squad to face Newcastle after having a difficult six months, leaving Alejandro Garnacho as the sole starting left-wing option currently. The Cherries’ winger was described recently as an “immediate upgrade” for Tottenham’s stacked attacking crew, so he will also benefit any of the top six sides.
The Ghanaian has had a breakout season so far after bursting out of the gate with a hot goalscoring start to his campaign. As we near the halfway mark, he has eight goals and three assists in 16 league appearances, almost one contribution per match so far.
In addition to his attacking exploits, the attacker is an effective out of position player, ranking highly for tackles, blocks, clearances, and aerials won per 90 when comparing to his peers across Europe’s top five leagues. He is overperforming his xG on average with an actual non-penalty goals per 90 output of 0.34 on an npxG per 90 of 0.24.
The rest of his numbers look less appealing as he doesn’t generate many assists or shot-creating actions while his passing and dribbling numbers are decidedly mediocre for a wide man. There could be some hope that this will be adjusted in a system for a bigger team.
