Kieran Gill’s report that Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is on Newcastle United’s shortlist will have perked some ears up. Following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro the former Villarreal man hasn’t seen much game time due to a suspension and then being left on the bench. With numbers ahead of him, the Senagalese man could depart this summer if the right situation offers itself.
While Gill himself didn’t mention a price, his report does lend some credibility to what was reported by Mark Douglas who mentioned that there has been contact between the two parties and has some fees for us. According to Douglas, the Blues are looking for £80 million to agree to sell the attacker.
The Magpies are hoping to drop this down to about £65 million but either figure and anything in between them would represent a big profit for Chelsea who paid in the region of around £32 million.
Despite some criticisms levelled his way, the striker is a handful for any defence. He presses hard and has on-ball abilities to dribble and pass when he has to. For someone who still has very little senior football experience to his name his skillset is varied and ready to be sharpened with patience and trust. He has only turned 24, meaning he still has many years to refine his game in England’s top division.
He also guarantees some goals which Newcastle can use after seeing Hugo Ekitike go to Liverpool over them. With 24 goals in 65 league appearances, the Senegal man has proven to be effective for the Blues, just not at a level desired by the fanbase.
With his potential and goal-scoring ability, the reported £80 million fee would be about right for Jackson. He is undoubtedly a player of major quality and is proven at the top level, something that far more expensive players have lacked.
