Despite him signing a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge last summer, Chelsea are already looking to offload Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho joined the Blues from Manchester United in a £40 million deal in August 2025, but has underwhelmed and could already be on the move.

The 21-year-old scored just one goal in 24 Premier League appearances in the 2025/26 season, a campaign where Chelsea ended in an underwhelming tenth place.

According to Chelsea FC blogger Si Phillips on Substack, the Blues have been ‘disappointed’ with the season Garnacho has had and are preparing to shop him around to clubs this summer.

One club that will be offered the Argentine’s services is Napoli, who have wanted Garnacho in the last two transfer windows. Phillips reports that the Blues will contact the Italian club to inform them of Garnacho’s availability.

Chelsea will look for a ‘similar fee’ to the £40 million they bought Garnacho for, and believe they can get that, but it will mean any potential move will drag on before an agreement is reached.

The early promise that Garnacho had at Manchester United, where he came through as a significant prospect, is starting to fade.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast in April, former Manchester United player Nicky Butt did not hold back when reflecting on Garnacho’s time at United.

He said: “The best thing for me that Manchester United did was sell him because, forget his ability, I don’t think he’s that great anyway. However, his attitude for me was a disgrace when he was at United.”

Garnacho’s temperament has often been criticised, and it’s clear the Argentine is not especially liked by some former teammates. Luke Shaw took to Instagram to post a goading image of him dominating Garnacho on the pitch in April, which received wide circulation.

Manchester United have a 10% sell-on clause for when Chelsea sell Garnacho, but the Red Devils seeing any financial benefit from any deal to be had is unlikely, with the chances of a lucrative sale above what Chelsea paid for him looking unreachable now.
