Chelsea are making good progress in terms of sales this week, and they could yet add another one before it’s done.
Armando Broja has had a tough time with injuries in the last few years, but if you show a flash of talent as a striker in the Premier League there will always be someone ready to take a chance on you – and it looks like the Blues have finally found a taker.
According to Nizaar Kinsella’s article for the BBC this afternoon, Burnley are already in “advanced talks” to sign Broja on a permanent deal from the Blues. Broja is happy to head to Turf Moor, and has a 5 year deal there on the table.
Kinsella mentions a deal that could be “worth up to £20m”, but that’s a very high price considering Broja’s recent injury troubles. He’s still young and has shown his quality before, so we can expect some money up front, but we would imagine it’s a heavily incentivised transfer with a lot of bonuses based on whether he can stay fit and score goals for the newly promoted Clarets.
Interest in Broja has not been intense, so to get such a solid fee is a big boost.
With Broja gone, Chelsea will be able to tick off yet another crucial element of their summer sales. There are still plenty to go – Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling to name but a few – but Broja is a nice one to have squared away.
We know they’re keen to sell before finalising a deal for Xavi Simons – could this tip the scales and allow that deal to be done? It would certainly grease the wheels a little.
