She was never going to give us a proper amount of time to allow us to shower her with the praise she deserves, but one of the greatest goalkeepers in international soccer history is stepping away from the USWNT.
Chicago Stars FC goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher announced that the current international window would be her last competing in international soccer with the United States Women’s National Team. Emma Hayes’ side is currently in London preparing to face off against England on Nov. 30 at Wembley Stadium and the Netherlands on Dec. 3 at ADO Den Haag Stadium.
Naeher, 36, has been a fixture with the USWNT since she made her senior international debut in Dec. 2014 and is third all-time in goalkeeper caps (113), starts (110), wins (88) and shutouts (68). She’s won two World Cups, a U-20 World Cup in 2008, a Gold Medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup, and seven SheBelieves Cups with the USWNT.
Naeher has repeatedly come up clutch for the USWNT, particularly when stopping or even occasionally taking penalty kicks.
The Chicago goalkeeper will be back with the club in 2025 looking to extend her NWSL record in both appearances and saves by a goalkeeper.
