Inter head coach Cristian Chivu has a selection dilemma on his hands, as the coach weighs up whether to drop goalkeeper Yann Sommer in favour of Josep Martinez.

According to what has been reported by CalcioMercato, Chivu is seriously considering a change, after Sommer conceded four goals from four shots-on-target against Juventus on Saturday evening.

The reports highlight how there are no longer ‘untouchable’ players at Inter.

In the Derby d’Italia, Federico Dimarco started the game from the bench whilst Lautaro Martinez played just 45 minutes and Nicolo Barella was also taken off.

Therefore, Chivu could seriously consider giving Josep Martinez a go in goal at the expense of Sommer.

Spanish goalkeeper Martinez set for chance at Inter

Inter will face off against Ajax in Amsterdam this midweek, as the Nerazzurri look to bounce back from last year’s final defeat to PSG in their Champions League opener this campaign.

Martinez arrived from Genoa last year in a deal worth around €13.5 million plus €1.5 million in bonuses.

However, he has played just 10 games for the Nerazzurri, with Sommer able to regularly defend his number one spot.

Now, Inter may look to slowly start utilising the Spanish keeper more. Sommer’s contract expires next summer and at 36, is starting to suffer from dulled reflexes and showing his age.
