Chris Wood scored a hat-trick against his former club as Nottingham Forest came from behind to win 3-1 at Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

Newcastle went in front in the 23rd minute when Alexander Isak converted a penalty kick that he had won himself following a foul by Ola Aina.

But Wood drew Forest level in first-half added time courtesy of a tap-in set up by Anthony Elanga.

Wood's second goal, which arrived eight minutes into the second half, was also assisted by Elanga but it was certainly not a tap-in.

After racing onto Elanga's through-ball, Wood dribbled around Dan Burn before lifting a brilliant lob over Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka.

The New Zealand international completed the second hat-trick of his Premier League career in the 60th minute when he collected a long-range pass from Murillo before rounding Dubravka and firing into an empty net.

Wood is now the fourth player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick against a team he had previously played for in the competition.

Meanwhile, he is the seventh player to register an EPL hat-trick on Boxing Day.

Tuesday's win at Newcastle came in Nuno Espirito Santo's second game as Forest manager.

The former Wolves and Tottenham boss had lost 3-2 at home to Bournemouth in his first game in charge of Forest.

Forest had not won in seven league games prior to Tuesday.
