Christian Eriksen, heroic paramedics invited to Euro 2020 final

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen may have a couple of reasons to attend this Sunday's final of the ongoing UEFA European Championship at London's Wembley Stadium. 

Per The Athletic and Reuters (h/t ESPN), UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has officially invited Eriksen, his wife and six paramedics who helped save the footballer's life after he suffered cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 opener versus Finland last month to Sunday's game. 

Eriksen, 29, was resuscitated via CPR and a defibrillator on the pitch during the June 12 fixture, and he later underwent successful surgery to have a defibrillator implanted before he left the hospital. He is recovering at home, and it was unknown as of Tuesday afternoon if he will accept UEFA's invite. 

All six medics are expected to attend Sunday's final. 

The Danes became the inspirational story of the competition and booked a semifinal showdown versus England on Wednesday. The winner of that match will play the victor of Tuesday's clash between Italy and Spain. 

Following Eriksen's horrific collapse, the English Premier League announced it is funding Automated External Defibrillators (ADE) for over 2,000 sites at grassroots clubs and facilities to help deal with similar medical emergencies.
