Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has been prohibited from returning to Inter Milan because he was fitted with a defibrillator after he suffered cardiac arrest during the UEFA European Championship in June.
Per Reuters (h/t ESPN), Eriksen is now training at Odense Boldklub, his youth club in Denmark, as part of his recovery from that life-altering setback.
"Eriksen reached out to us, and he is now training by himself," a club spokesperson told the news outlet.
"It's natural for him since he played here in his youth and lives around the corner. We are very happy to be able to provide training facilities for him."
Italian rules prevent Eriksen from competing in that country unless he has his ICD device removed. Inter explained in late October they're willing to allow the 29-year-old to pursue other options if he can receive clearance to sign "where the player could resume competitive activity."
Earlier this fall, Eriksen was linked with clubs in Holland and England, but it's unclear if he'd pass a medical with any team in those nations. It was previously said the former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker would remain sidelined until at least February 2022, which suggests his professional career will stay paused through the opening of next year's summer transfer window.
