Christian Pulisic gives update on status for USA's clash with the Netherlands

Christian Pulisic played the hero for Team USA in the must-have win for the red, white, and blue. The USA defeated Iran, 1-0, to advance out of Group B and into the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup.

Pulisic's goal in the 38th minute proved to be the defining moment for the USA as well as its ticket to the knockout round. The 24-year-old Chelsea midfielder paid dearly for his efforts, though, as he collided with the Iranian goalkeeper, Alireza Beiranvand, milliseconds after tapping in the beautifully headed crosser from Sergino Dest.

Pulisic suffered what appeared to be an abdominal injury and was subbed out by Team USA at halftime.

The USA will need the young superstar back in action and as close to full strength as possible in order to defeat The Netherlands in the knockout round, and the good news is that he did provide an update on his status for Saturday's match.

That's an update that should lead fans of Team USA to rejoice, but USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie told ESPN that even just seeing Pulisic put his body on the line as he did will have the team riled up moving forward.

'Obviously we're very thankful that he threw his body there, but the thing is we have 20, 25 guys outside of Christian that would do the same thing, I believe. We know what our goal is, we know what we want to do, what we want to accomplish, and everybody's ready to give everything," McKennie said. "It's unfortunate he had to come out from it, but if you see the stature Christian has and he's throwing his body on the line, that should tell you enough of what this team means and how close this team is."

"Huge player for us, obviously. Praying for him, hoping everything is OK. He'll hang in there. I know he'll do anything to play in the next game," USMNT captain Tyler Adams said.
