The USMNT suffered two losses against two European nations this past week: Belgium and Portugal. The friendly matches were set to prepare the team for the 2026 World Cup, and the performances have caused concern among fans.
Star players like Christian Pulisic were on the pitch against Belgium and Portugal, and the performances did not convince fans and former players that the USMNT will have a good World Cup.
With a few months left until the World Cup, former USMNT player Kyle Martino talked about not feeling confident about the team.
Martino said, "The lack of qualifying has hurt us. There hasn't been enough meaningful games...I don't think we've gotten a lot better since the last World Cup."
After losing 2-0 to Portugal, Pulisic was disappointed with the results in the March international break but believes that the team can find positives after the friendly matches ahead of the World Cup.
Following a 2-0 loss to Portugal, just days after losing 5-2 to Belgium, Christian Pulisic was not happy with the results over the past few days, but thinks the team has positives.
Pulisic said, "Obviously, we’re disappointed with the results. But to be honest, I’m taking a lot of positives from it. I think we’re a lot closer than it may seem. I still feel positive, and I have belief in this team."
Pulisic adds pressure to himself in finishing chances, which he highlights can change a result, and he talks about the USMNT's performance in the first half against Belgium and Portugal.
Pulisic said, "We even put a lot of pressure on them in the first half of both games, and we’re able to create chances. If I finish a couple chances, which I know I’m going to, things are going to be different...But I feel like we’re right in the game, and I feel good things are coming."
