Christian Pulisic Made USMNT History Against Jamaica

The United States Men's National Team has never seen a player like current captain Christian Pulisic. If you don't believe it, check the stats.

Pulisic scored twice in the first half of a 4-2 rout against Jamaica in the second leg of the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal in St. Louis, leading the United States marching into the semifinal by a 5-2 aggregate scoreline.

Pulisic tallied three goal contributions (one assist, two goals) in the two matches against the Reggae Boyz. He set up USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi for the lone goal in the 1-0 first leg win last Thursday in Kingston.

Pulisic went on to make himself the headline act in front of the American fans on Monday, dancing his way to an impressive piece of soccer history.

Pulisic started the onslaught by finishing off a beautiful pass from fellow Serie A star Weston McKennie. His left-footed goal gave the Yanks a 1-0 advantage in the 13th minute of play.

While his celebration sparked the immediate reaction from fans, Pulisic's first goal of the half will leave a lasting mark in the history books.

It marked the 32nd goal of Pulisic's national team career. Combined with his 18th assist on Thursday, the AC Milan star became the fastest player to reach 50 goal contributions in USMNT history. The 26-year-old reached the major milestone in his 76th cap.

Additionally, the opener was his 23rd goal scored in a competitive match, which equalled Brian McBride for fourth-most in team history, according to Opta. Pulisic would go on to score again in the first half to move into sole possession of fourth place.

The second goal was not as clean, but it was just as pretty. While a deflection was kind to the American star, it rounded off another impressive sequence of play in a dominant 3-0 first half showing by the Americans.

The improvement under head coach Mauricio Pochettino was on full display in what was only his second competitive match in charge of USMNT.

With a player as accomplished as Pulisic leading the way, the sky is the limit for what the team could become under its new Argentinian manager. If the match against Jamaica was any indication, a lot more attacking records may come under threat in the near future.

The Concacaf Nations League semifinals will take place in March 2025, with the United States' opponents yet to be determined.
