Seattle Reign starting goalkeeper Claudia Dickey did not travel with the team to North Carolina and will be unavailable to play in tomorrow’s match against the Courage. The availability report for the game has not yet been released, but head coach Laura Harvey told media in her MD-1 press conference that Dickey picked up an injury with the U.S. women’s national team in Brazil and has not yet recovered.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jess Fishlock travelled with the team and could make her first appearance since being stretchered off the field in a game on April 26. She announced she will retire at the end of this season.
“Tomorrow might be slightly too early for her, but it tells you how close she is that she’s with the team and we thought it would be a good idea to travel her with the potential chance that she might be available for us,” Harvey said.
In goal, Dickey is a massive loss. The 2025 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year candidate has been crucial to keeping her team in games again this season with her saves, but she is also a big piece of their build-out of the back.
The most experienced backup option is Cassie Miller. Miller has not appeared for Seattle since being acquired ahead of the 2025 season, but is in her sixth NWSL season with 31 league appearances. The Reign also have young goalkeepers Neeku Purcell and Evan O’Steen. Both have yet to make an NWSL appearance but are the purported future of the club. O’Steen is an 18-year-old with youth U.S. women’s national team experience signed through 2030. Purcell, a 22-year-old Seattle native, joined last year as a short-term injury replacement for Miller but signed an extension through 2028 this week. She played one season for Brooklyn FC of the Gainbridge Super League in 2024/25 before joining Seattle.
The Reign will play the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, July 4 at 7:30 pm ET after the game time was pushed back in accordance with the NWSL’s heat-safety policy due to forecasted high temperatures at match time. As a result, instead of streaming on ION, the game will now be on NWSL+.
