Club preparing ‘serious proposal’ for Tottenham player, player open to a new challenge

Tottenham were quite mediocre defensively last season, and losing their best central defender would be a huge blow. He was instrumental in their UEFA Europa League win last season. Romero has won major trophies with his country, and he is looking to compete at the highest level in club football as well. He will look to win league titles and the Champions League in future, and it remains to be seen what he decides. Atletico Madrid are certainly better-placed to fight for major trophies compared to Tottenham right now. 

Can Tottenham afford to sell him?

The €70 million package could prove to be attractive for Tottenham, and it will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy is willing to sanction the departure of the defender. Tottenham will need to replace him adequately if he moves on. 

They will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and they need a formidable squad in order to do well. They will look to get back into the top four in the Premier League as well.
