Jadon Sancho ultimately went down as one of Manchester United’s worst signings in the modern era.
The winger was signed by the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 in a £73 million deal, as the exciting prospect put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
Sancho was seen as a statement coup at the time, but failed to make the grade during a tough period at Old Trafford. The Englishman scored just 12 times in 83 appearances between 2021 and 2024, before being loaned out to former club Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.
Manchester United finally parted ways with Jadon Sancho in June 2026, following the expiration of the 26-year-old’s contract.
It feels as if the winger, capped by England 23 times between 2018 and 2021, has been on the block for many years, but the United flop is still just midway through his career.
Now the player’s representatives will be hoping to find him a move and take his career back on to the right path again. While Sancho did fine in his three loans away from Manchester United, he never made enough of an impact to warrant any of the sides seriously trying to land his services permanently.
One proposal on the table is from Qatari side Al-Rayyan, according to Foot Mercato Journalist Santi Aouna. The club are pushing to convince the English winger and is working to beat the competition for his signature.
It’s now down to Jadon Sancho and his camp as to whether a move to Qatar would be right for him. A transfer that would likely be lucrative financially, it’s a game between sporting ambition and wealth.
European clubs Besiktas and Atletico Madrid both reportedly have interest in Sancho. The 26-year-old’s next move will be an interesting indicator as to how he wishes to get a wavering career back on course.
