Sandro Tonali has continued to be linked with a move away from Newcastle United.

Fresh reports have suggested that the Magpies could receive a huge bid for the Italian midfielder.

Manchester United have been known admirers for Tonali for some time now and were recently credited with interest in the Newcastle star as they assessed midfield options for the summer transfer window.

Having agreed both personal terms and a club-to-club agreement for Ederson, the Red Devils are still expected to sign at least one more midfielder.

Newcaslte, meanwhile, have already demonstrated how highly they value Sandro Tonali by already rejecting two bids from Tottenham Hotspur.

However, it appears another Manchester club could be set to test the Magpies’ resolve.

Manchester City eye blockbuster Tonali move

According to MARCA, Manchester City are prepared to spend in excess of €110 million to sign Tonali this summer.

The report claims that newly-appointed manager Enzo Maresca is eager to make a statement signing as he begins his reign at the Etihad following Pep Guardiola’s departure.

Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 for a fee believed to be worth around €60m and remains under contract at St James’ Park until 2028.

While Newcastle are reluctant to sell one of their most influential players, City’s financial strength means they could yet test Eddie Howe’s side with a major proposal.

The latest development comes shortly after Manchester City completed a historic transfer for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

That move surpassed the fee City previously paid for Jack Grealish and underlined their determination to continue strengthening despite already possessing one of Europe’s strongest squads.

Should City now follow that up with a successful move for Tonali, it would represent another extraordinary piece of business and further reinforce their ambitions under Maresca ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
