Roberto De Zerbi and Brighton agreed to part ways in recent days, but the coach remains under contract for the team. His deal lasts until 2026. The fact that he stepped down made him a candidate for several openings. On the other hand, the suitors will still have to go through his previous side to hire him, Alfredo Pedullà informed.

His original release clause was €15M, making him a long shot to be poached if not by a powerhouse. It hasn’t been outright canceled following the recent events. Instead, it has been lowered to €5M. Its validity will cease at the end of August.

De Zerbi has been linked to a few teams already but without much traction. According to the transfer market expert, he’d like to keep working in the Premier League. His dream destination would be Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag’s future will be decided after an upcoming cup final.

Chelsea recently moved on from Mauricio Pochettino but are focusing on different options, such as Enzo Maresca, Kieran McKenna, and Thomas Frank, Fabrizio Romano reported.

Our Take on De Zerbi

The tidbits explain why the high-profile Serie A teams looking for a boss didn’t rush to persuade him. It has basically never happened for an Italian side to pay to hire a coach. Considering how much money gets wasted on lousy acquisitions yearly, he’d be worth the investment. Obviously, his intentions also need to be taken into consideration, but it’s hard to imagine he’d pass on some jobs.
