The saga around Chelsea and Xavi Simons continues to drag on as we near the team’s return to action. With the side set to take on Bayer Leverkusen on August 9 in their first pre-season friendly of the campaign, they’ll be eager to get as many deals done as they can. New reports indicate that one outgoing could be what unlocks the deal for the Dutch talent.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tyrique George could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. The player himself is actually keen to exit as competition grows ahead of him. He didn’t see a tonne of game time during the Club World Cup and the addition of Simons would provide yet another block to significant minutes.
The “Cobham Gem” broke into the first team over the previous campaign, featuring as a winger or an emergency striker option. He was largely seen in the Europa Conference League but did make some appearances in the Premier League, even scoring a crucial goal against Fulham.
RB Leipzig are reportedly interested in obtaining George. he fits their usual profile of young talents who they can develop internally. While Romano stresses that this is an entirely seperate discussion to the Simons deal, it does follow up on recent reports from Matt Law.
Law spoke on a podcast recently and mentioned that the Blues were hoping to see some outgoings in their attacking core before going all in on the move to sign the Dutch international. The interest in George and the player’s desire to leave could be what opens the door to this transfer going through.
Simons would be worth the gamble on losing such a promising academy graduate. The Leipzig man has been a proven creator in senior football both in the Bundesliga and the Eredivisie after impressing as part of Paris Saint-Germain’s youth setup.
