Since his move to Chelsea in 2023, Cole Palmer has become one of their top attackers, racking up 48 goals and 29 assists in 110 games despite repeated goin injuries.
However, the 23-year-old is reportedly unsettled in the Chelsea camp, and is keen to start a new chapter in his career.
Palmer started off in the Manchester City academy, rising through the ranks to join the first team in 2021 under Pep Guardiola.
However, with only 41 appearances in three seasons, the Manchester-born star moved to Stamford Bridge for £42.5 million.
Now, Cole Palmer could be set to return home as he opens the door to a move to Manchester United.
The Sun has reported that Palmer misses his hometown, Wythenshawe, and regularly travels back to visit family and friends.
Alongside his routine travel to the Manchester area, the attacking midfielder supported The Red Devils as a child, so would welcome interest from his boyhood team.
With the shake-up at Old Trafford, there are now more links between United and Palmer than ever, as Jason Wilcox was in charge of the City acadmey whilst Palmer was there.
A move for Palmer as a former City striker wouldn’t be out of the question, as United targeted Liam Delap in the summer before he moved from Ipswich to Chelsea.
However, recent comments from new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior suggest that a move isn’t on the cards, as he addressed the speculation in his pre-match press conference before taking on Crystal Palace.
The former Strasbourg manager commented: “I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems, and is, very, very happy to be here.”
He continued: “He is a huge part of our long‑term plans, he’s an outstanding player. Every player goes through difficult moments in their career with injuries, but that is no indication of his quality.”
Whilst it’s true that Palmer signed a new long-term contract with Chelsea until 2033 this summer, the same happened with Antoine Semenyo who’s now joined Manchester City.
So in the world of football, as we know, long-term contracts aren’t always an obstacle, with his links to Old Trafford being a major boost to United.
