Manchester United have seen a number of former players secure new clubs this summer as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.
While Michael Carrick focuses on shaping his squad at Old Trafford, several ex-Red Devils are embarking on fresh chapters after leaving the club in previous years.
United supporters have already watched familiar faces move across Europe during this transfer window, with more former players continuing to find opportunities elsewhere.
One defender who enjoyed silverware during his time at United has now taken the next step in his career.
Eric Bailly has officially completed a move to Major League Soccer after signing for Columbus Crew as a free agent following the conclusion of his spell with Spanish side Real Oviedo, as the club announced on their website.
The Ivory Coast international has signed a contract guaranteed until June 2027, while the American club also hold options to extend his stay through the 2028 and 2029 MLS seasons.
Eric Bailly will officially join the squad once his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa are processed.
Columbus Crew General Manager Issa Tall welcomed the experienced defender by saying, “We are excited to welcome Eric to Columbus. His experience at the highest levels of the game, combined with his defensive quality, leadership, and composure, will strengthen our backline and have an impact on our roster.
“Eric brings a winning mentality and valuable experience that will benefit our group both on and off the field.
“We look forward to integrating him into the team as we continue pushing toward our goals in the second half of the season.”
Bailly arrives in the United States after representing several clubs across Europe, including Espanyol, Villarreal, Marseille, Besiktas and most recently Real Oviedo.
However, it was his seven-year spell at Manchester United where he enjoyed the greatest success of his career.
Signed ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, Eric Bailly quickly established himself as one of Jose Mourinho’s key defensive options during a memorable first season at Old Trafford.
Across his United career, the centre-back made 113 appearances, scoring once and registering one assist while helping the club lift the UEFA Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Community Shield.
He featured 11 times during United’s victorious Europa League campaign, also contributing to the club’s League Cup triumph that same season.
Now aged 32, the experienced defender will be hoping his wealth of European experience can help Columbus Crew push for further success in Major League Soccer.
