Como head coach Cesc Fabregas only had words of praise for Inter Milan, particularly lauding their defensive duo Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni.
The Nerazzurri are coming off an epic qualification at the expense of Barcelona following two unforgettable contests in the Champions League semi-finals.
The back-and-forth action left both sets of supporters breathless, and even neutrals were on the edge of their seats. This is the sort of excitement casino enthusiasts are accustomed to when playing at the best online casino platforms, but viewers almost struggled to believe this was real life.
After an astonishing 3-3 draw in the first leg in Catalunya, Inter hosted the decisive second leg at San Siro.
The Nerazzurri were off to a brilliant start, scoring twice in the first half. Lautaro Martinez finished off a swift play before winning a spot-kick that Hakan Calhanoglu converted.
Nevertheless, the Blaugrana turned the contest upside-down in the second half. Eric Garcia pulled one back with a vicious volley, and Dani Olmo’s header put the Catalans back on level terms.
With momentum on Blaugrana’s side, Raphinha thought he had scored the late winner for the Spanish giants.
However, Inter refused to raise the white flag, and out of all people, Acerbi emerged as the last-gasp hero. The veteran defender charged forward to smash home the equaliser that took the contest to extra time.
And when Inter need a big winner, Davide Frattesi often obliges. The Italian midfielder, who came off the bench, scored the goal that booked the Nerazzurri’s place in the grand finale against Paris Saint-Germain.
While he was likely disappointed to see his former club Barcelona eliminated, Fabregas paid tribute to Inter.
The young manager admitted that the two semi-final clashes were a true tactical lesson, while hailing Acerbi and Bastoni.
“I really like watching both teams,” said the former Arsenal captain in his post-match interview with DAZN (via FcInterNews) following Como’s win over Cagliari.
“Inter has this very important mobility. I study Bastoni, Acerbi a lot, and how they marshal the backline. There is a lot to learn from how Inter play.
“Barcelona has a very similar style of play to ours [Como’s]. I like to see how the young players play, with personality. I wanted to learn from both of them.”
