Como have confirmed they will be without Assane Diao for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on a fractured metatarsal.

The exciting forward joined from Real Betis in January for €12m plus a 20 per cent cut of his future transfer fee.

He immediately made a huge impact in Serie A, scoring eight goals in just 15 appearances, along with one assist.

These performances helped drag Como out of the danger zone, so they now sit relatively comfortable in mid-table.

Diao surgery ends his season for Como

However, Diao will be out for the rest of the campaign, as he sustained an injury to his right foot during yesterday’s training session.

Tests showed a fracture to the fifth metatarsal in the right foot and he has already undergone surgery.

A statement from the club confirmed that the teenager will not play again this season.

The 19-year-old was born in Senegal and moved to Spain at a young age, so after playing for Spain at various youth levels, he switched his allegiance to the land of his birth.

Diao has two senior caps for Senegal, both achieved in March 2025, after his transfer to Como.
