According to reports, Roma made another attempt to convince Cesc Fabregas to leave Como in the last 24 hours, but it was rejected.
The Corriere dello Sport noted that Fabregas had become their first choice to take over from Claudio Ranieri when he retires after tonight’s final match against Torino.
They made direct contact with Como, asking for terms to release him from his contract and allow him to negotiate over salary.
It was only last night that they made the approach, confirming that they have not yet reached an agreement with anyone.
However, Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio insists that Como rejected this outright and are confident they will keep Fabregas for at least another season.
He had also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen, after Xabi Alonso left to take over at Real Madrid, but again Como stood firm.
The former midfielder ended his playing career with Como in Serie B in the 2022-23 season, then went straight into management at the same club.
The 38-year-old helped them to an historic promotion into Serie A, where they are set to finish mid-table.
