On Saturday evening, Liverpool will face off against Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
We’ve looked into how their squads stack up in terms of market value heading into this fixture.
According to Transfermarkt, Liverpool’s squad is valued at £1,008,620,000 overall.
That places them fourth in the Premier League rankings behind Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
Brighton’s squad has a total value of £443,445,000 which puts them 11th in the current English top-flight rankings.
The average market value of a Liverpool player this season stands at £32.4m. By contrast, Brighton’s average player value is considerably lower at £17.05m.
Even with a squad that is worth over twice as much as Brighton’s, Slot still has some problems going into the FA Cup clash.
Endo Wataru became the latest injury to an already growing list after being stretched off against Sunderland on Wednesday night. While Alexander Isak was seen training this week, he is not expected to be ready in time for the Brighton match.
Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni also continue to be out of action.
Speaking before the match, Slot mentioned how important it is to manage his players carefully during a busy period. “The last thing we could use right now is another injury. So load management is important now. We have to train today, see how players are doing and listen to how they feel,” he said.
The Dutch manager may need to bring in some young players from Liverpool’s Academy for cover and to give some of his senior squad members a break. However, his comments suggest that none of them are likely to start just yet.
“I am always looking at them,” he said when asked about the potential selection of Academy talent. “A few of them come closer and closer to first-team football. A few already had it like Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni.”
“Games like this could be an option for them as well. It’s finding the right balance because we play against a very good and strong team.”
