Sergio Conceicao will meet with Porto president Andre Villas-Boas soon to discuss the club’s plans and a contractual clause that could free him up to join Milan.

The 49-year-old Portuguese coach has emerged as one of the Rossoneri’s leading candidates to replace Stefano Pioli in the summer. The club have already decided to cut the Italian tactician and will soon figure out the details of his severance pay ahead of the summer.

Conceicao recently penned a new long-term contract with Porto, tying him to the club until 2028, but despite that a move to Milan is looking increasingly likely in the summer. The main alternative appears to be Lille’s Paulo Fonseca, but the former winger is still considered the leading candidate.

Conceicao clause

Page 16 of today’s Tuttosport details how Conceicao signed his new contract with the previous Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, a four-year deal worth €3.5m net per season. The total agreement is worth around €28m total until 2028, figures that don’t convince new president Villas-Boas.

The two parties will meet in the coming days to discuss the club’s plans and the financial situation. Conceicao holds a clause in his contract that would allow him to terminate the deal early, which would then free him up to join Milan, leaving the door open ahead of the summer.
