Condo slams ‘sloppy’ Juventus man: 'You’re not a phenomenon'

After the break, a lovely team action from Juventus culminated with Weston McKennie’s equaliser. However, the home side failed to find a winner, even when the referee awarded them a spot-kick.

David, who won the penalty, decided to take it himself, with Kenan Yildiz’s blessing. However, the former LOSC Lille star sent a weak effort straight to the middle without the customary chip. Hence, the ball was easily blocked by Wladimiro Falcone’s trailing leg.

Canada’s all-time goal-scorer tried to make amends later on, but the Lecce goalkeeper thwarted him once more.

Paolo Condo has a stern message for Jonathan David

Following the match, Condo expressed his bewilderment with David’s demeanour, wondering how a struggling player could be so casual in his execution.

“David was too sloppy on the penalty … as if he were a phenomenon, going to score a goal like a phenomenon,” said the veteran journalist in his post-match appearance on Sky Sport Italia via IlBianconero.

“I think the message we need to send to David right now is this: ‘we don’t think you’re a phenomenon; up to now, based on what you’ve shown, you’ve been a fairly modest centre-forward’.

“When you’re given the opportunity to show your qualities, you have to put in 200% — mentally and technically.

“On the technical side, I hope he knows how to take penalties better than that, but from a mental point of view… You simply cannot step up to take a penalty like that.”

David hasn’t scored in Serie A since his club debut against Parma in August. His two other Juventus goals came in the Champions League wins over Bodo/Glimt and Pafos.
