Marcus Rashford’s future has once again become a major talking point, with fresh reports creating confusion over the status of his potential permanent move to Barcelona.

Earlier, it was suggested that discussions had begun between Manchester United and the Spanish giants regarding the forward’s future.

That following growing optimism in Catalonia that Barcelona would look to activate – or potentially renegotiate – the option-to-buy clause included in the loan agreement.

However, conflicting information has now emerged.

While some reports in Spain claim Barcelona are attempting to reduce the previously agreed fee and that talks between the clubs are ongoing, it is reported by Sky Sport’s Manchester United reporter Danyal Khan that from United’s side no such negotiations have taken place.

Crucially, there have been no active discussions over lowering the option fee – and there is no intention to entertain the possibility.

The current purchase option remains set at approximately €30 million (around £26 million).

From Manchester United’s perspective, the agreement stands as originally structured.

Rashford’s loan was designed to give Barcelona clarity over the terms of a permanent transfer.

United inserted a defined valuation to avoid drawn-out bargaining, particularly in a summer where the club are expected to be decisive in reshaping the squad under Michael Carrick.

At this stage, Barcelona must decide whether to trigger the clause as agreed.

Any suggestion that the Red Devils are preparing to re-negotiate appears to be wide of the mark.

For now, the only certainty is uncertainty – with differing accounts emerging over whether meaningful talks have even begun.
