Antonio Conte is reportedly only a step away from taking over at Napoli after finalising the terms of his contract with Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Partenopei decided to accelerate for the 54-year-old tactician following Gian Piero Gasperini’s decision to move forward with Atalanta, removing his top competitor for the role. Talks reopened on Friday and progressed quickly over the last 48 hours.

Napoli directors Giovanni Manna and Andrea Chiavelli have been in close contact with Conte over the last two days, offering a three-year contract worth around €6.5-7m net per season plus €2m in add-ons, keen to start a new cycle in the Campania capital.

Conte on verge of joining Napoli

Calciomercato.com details how Napoli are keen to announce the arrival of Conte by Tuesday next week, wanting to quickly start the new project at the club. The coach is expected to bring long-time collaborator Gabriele Oriali with him to the Campania capital.

The 54-year-old will have an important role in the club’s summer transfer market strategy and the hope is that he’ll be able to convince some top players not to leave, although the sale of Victor Osimhen is all but confirmed at this point.
