Could one of Manchester City’s most important players remain at the club after this summer transfer window? Bernardo Silva’s future remains the subject of much speculation. But, a new report indicates that Barcelona is not willing to pay the release clause in Bernardo’s contract. If that remains the case, it could potentially see Bernardo stay at the club this summer.

Toni Juanmartí has reported for Spanish publication SPORT that signing Bernardo Silva isn’t a priority for Barcelona. Furthermore, Juanmartí reports that the Catalan club believes that the £50 million release clause in Bernardo’s contract is excessive. Also included in Juanmartí’s report is that a decision on Bernardo Silva’s future will be made by his camp when this season concludes.

With Barcelona appearing to baulk at the release clause in Bernardo Silva’s contract, it does raise the possibility of one of Manchester City’s most important players remaining at the club. If that were to be the case, it would be a positive for the world champions. The Portuguese midfielder is one of Pep Guardiola’s most dependable players, and without the release clause in his current contract, it is doubtful that Manchester City would want to sell Bernardo.

Unless a new suitor emerges for one of Manchester City’s most important players, the possibility of Bernardo remaining at the club remains a real possibility. Given his versatility and the multitude of roles he can play finding a replacement for what Bernardo brings to the treble winners squad will be no easy task for the world champions.

Bernardo Silva’s future is fast becoming a story to watch for this summer. The hope is that City’s inspirational midfielder continues his trophy laden spell at the Etihad.
