As recently as a few days ago it looked very likely that Ian Maatsen would be returning to his native Holland this summer.

The left back had had a couple of really impressive loans in the lower league, and Feyenoord were very keen to bring him home. It only seeed more likely once Manchester United moved for their current left back, Tyrell Malacia.

But in recent days the move for Maatsen has broken down, and suddenly we hear that the 20 year old is determined to stay put in England and make his mark at Chelsea.

He may have to do another year on loan, and Coventry Telegraph have quotes today from his boss from last season, Mark Robins, on how keen he would be to get the youngster back:

“I would love to bring him back, of course I would. He’s not only a brilliant footballer, he’s a brilliant kid and great to have around,” Robins said.

“I would love to bring him back, of course I would. He’s not only a brilliant footballer, he’s a brilliant kid and great to have around.”

That’s all we need to hear, both on his ability and his character. We’d like to see him go to a Premier League team though, or failing that, stay at Chelsea to back up our current options.
