Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is once again the subject of intense speculation. With Al-Nassr’s season ending in disappointment — no titles and a failure to qualify for the AFC Champions League — the Portuguese star’s next move is under the spotlight.
Reports from Spain’s Marca suggest that a Brazilian club has made a significant offer to bring Ronaldo in for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. While the club’s identity wasn’t initially disclosed, CNN Brasil has identified Botafogo as one of the team's making the move.
Botafogo, the reigning Copa Libertadores champions, are set to compete in the Club World Cup, drawn into a challenging group alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid, and the Seattle Sounders. The addition of Ronaldo would not only bolster their attacking options but also add a significant marketing boost, especially with Lionel Messi participating with Inter Miami.
Following a 0–0 draw against Flamengo on Sunday, Botafogo’s manager, Renato Paiva, was questioned about the potential acquisition of Ronaldo as reported by CNN Brasil. While he claimed to be unaware of any negotiations, his comments were telling.
“I don’t know anything, I’m answering your question, I swear I don’t know,” Paiva said. “But like I always say — coaches want more and better players. Ronaldo, even at his age, is still a goal machine. And in a team that generates chance after chance, a finisher like him always helps.”

He added with a smile:
“That question needs to be asked in another language, not Portuguese (laughs). Great players are always welcome — Cristiano or anyone else — as long as they can add to the squad, which I’m very satisfied with right now.”
With the Club World Cup approaching and Botafogo’s ambitions clear, the possibility of Ronaldo joining the Brazilian side adds an intriguing twist to the tournament narrative.
