Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners are off to a strong start, sitting six points clear at the top of the table after ten games and having conceded just three goals so far.
Mikel Arteta’s side eased past Burnley at the weekend, adding another clean sheet to their tally and extending their winning streak in all competitions to nine matches.
With such a solid defensive record, there is growing confidence that Arteta’s side can stay in the title race until the end of the season. Their next test comes against Wolves on November 11th.
At the beginning of the campaign, Liverpool were slight favourites after a summer that saw them spend over £400 million on new signings.
But just ten games in, Liverpool have shown cracks in several areas, and Manchester City’s heavy dependence on Erling Haaland’s goals has also become apparent.
This shift has put more attention on Arsenal as legitimate title contenders. Ally McCoist has publicly picked them to win it, and Alan Shearer has recently changed his stance to favour Mikel Arteta’s side.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest to add his voice to those backing Arsenal. During an interview with Piers Morgan, he shared his thoughts on who might come out on top.
“Manchester (United) are not going to win the league for sure because they have so many points behind right now,” he said. “It’s possible. Yes. But I don’t believe that.” He added: “Arsenal probably; it’s possible. Yes, Arsenal can win the league.”
It’s nice for Arsenal fans to hear Ronaldo, along with plenty of others, throwing their support behind the Gunners. But inside the club, Arteta and his players won’t be paying much attention.
The focus remains firmly on the job at hand. In past seasons, being tipped as favourites hasn’t always worked in their favour.
Back in 2022/23, they stumbled badly near the finish line when the pressure was on. And last season, constant media scrutiny didn’t make things any easier.
This time around, they know better than to let outside noise get in their way. The growing expectation is just something they’ll have to manage if they want to go all the way.
