Cristiano Ronaldo has officially reunited with Nike, bringing together two major powers in sport to promote a new football boot to the sporting world.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Ronaldo revealed that the boot would release on April 7th and would be red and silver with hints of black throughout.
The former Manchester United star looks set to compete at his final World Cup this summer in North America with Portugal where he is set to face Democratic Republic of Congo, Uzbekistan, and Columbia in the group stage.
It is likely that this boot will be present in these three games, as well as in Portugal’s friendly with Nigeria which is designed to help the players get ready for the tournament together.
Cristiano Ronaldo may also choose to wear the boot in the remainder of the Saudi Pro League season with Al Nassr with eight games remaining of the campaign, starting next Saturday against Al Akhdoud having recently returned from injury.
For the 41-year-old, reuniting with Nike marks a major shift in his relationship with the sportswear company given it had appeared to cool after the 2022 World Cup with older releases being preferred over newer issues.
Nike have, for long, been a major sportswear provider for footballers across the world including several current Manchester United players.
Marcus Rashford and Jason Sancho are often seen with Nike boots, helping to promote the brand to Red Devils fans across the world and encouraging them to buy the brand’s products to try and be like their heroes on the field.
Ronaldo was also sponsored by Nike in his time at Old Trafford with him similarly seen in the latest Nike boots on several occasions as he underwent a journey to the top of club football guided by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Nike had also produced the Manchester United jerseys for a sustained period with this contract coming at a time where the club won trophies such as the Premier League and Champions League, alongside others, before the club switched to Adidas in the 2015-16 season, bringing a 13-year partnership to an end.
For years to come, it is likely that Nike will continue to influence football and their players, both at English clubs such as Manchester United, and at other international clubs such as Barcelona amongst others.
