Cristiano Ronaldo has spent more than two decades making the impossible look inevitably, but even football’s greatest names cannot escape controversy.

From the streets of Madeira to the floodlights of Old Trafford, the Portuguese icon has built a legacy few players could ever dream of matching.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought Ronaldo to Manchester United in 2003, handing the teenager the famous No. 7 shirt previously worn by George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

Three Premier League titles, the 2008 Champions League and his first Ballon d’Or followed before a record-breaking move to Real Madrid.

There, Ronaldo became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, eventually collecting five Champions League titles and five Ballon d’Or awards across his extraordinary career.

His second spell at United ended controversially in 2022.

However, his place among the club’s greatest players remains secure.

Now 41 and representing Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has recently found himself at the centre of another storm.

Following a disagreement with Portugal manager Jorge Jesus, he accused the coach of breaking promises in a lengthy public statement.

Ronaldo subsequently received a provisional suspension after leaving the national team’s camp.

However, another long-running dispute has now reached an even more serious stage.

Cristiano Ronaldo taken to Supreme Court

Juventus have escalated their legal battle with Cristiano Ronaldo to Italy’s Supreme Court of Cassation over €9.8 million in unpaid wages.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the dispute dates back to the Covid-19 pandemic and an alleged agreement to defer approximately €19.6 million in salary.

Ronaldo left Juventus for Manchester United in 2021 without receiving the disputed payment.

An arbitration panel awarded him €9.8 million plus interest in April 2024, with a Turin court subsequently rejecting Juventus’ challenge in January 2026.

However, Juventus confirmed in their latest financial report that they appealed to the Supreme Court on March 27.

The Italian giants insist the financial implications have already been accounted for.

No hearing date has been confirmed, meaning Ronaldo’s legal battle remains unresolved.
