Celtic forward Daizen Maeda has been named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign…

The 27 year-old has showcased his versatility across the front line this season, and his stellar performances have now earned him another major individual honour – adding to his PFA Scotland Player of the Year award and a full collection of Celtic’s internal end-of-season awards.

Featuring in 33 league matches this season, Maeda has found the net 16 times and accumulated 10 assists, marking a standout campaign for the Japanese international, whose relentless energy has been vital for Brendan Rodgers’ side who are closing in on a potential Treble.

Across all competitions this season – including domestic cups and the Champions League – Maeda has featured in 49 matches for the Hoops, contributing 33 goals and 12 assists. With over 3,800 minutes on the pitch, he is averaging a goal every 118 minutes.

Maeda was absent from Celtic’s recent clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie after picking up a minor knock, as confirmed by Rodgers. However, he did take part in training ahead of the trip to the North-East, with the coaching staff opting to rest him as a precaution against Jimmy Thelin’s side.

The versatile forward recently reached the milestone of 150 appearances in a Celtic jersey. As of now, he has featured 156 times for the club, registering 62 goals and providing 28 assists.

With the transfer window approaching, there will undoubtedly be interest in Celtic’s star man. The Hoops hierarchy must remain strong in their valuation as Maeda is irreplaceable.

Rodgers has spoken in depth at aiming to tie Maeda down to a longer-term contract and that should be a priority for Michael Nicholson once the season is completed.

For Daizen, it is trophy day tomorrow against St Mirren and then Aberdeen at Hampden next weekend where he and his teammates will embark on securing an historic domestic Treble.
