Real Madrid lost the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona on Sunday. After the game, Dani Carvajal sent a clear message to Lamine Yamal.
The Catalan team defeated Real Madrid 3-2 at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah to be crowned consecutive Spanish superchampions.
Barcelona's goals were by Raphinha (36', 73') and Robert Lewandowski (45+4'), while Real Madrid's goals were by Vinicius Jr. (45+2) and Gonzalo Garcia (45+6').
Before the game, Carvajal had sent a challenging message to Yamal, but this time, after the game, it was a gesture of respect.
Fabrizio Romano and the Here We Go Corner account on Instagram shared a video of the post-game ceremony, in which Real Madrid players are lining up to receive their runners-up medals.
In the video, Carvajal can be seen walking past Yamal, and the captain of Real Madrid turns back and takes a moment to shake hands with the 18-year-old forward, as well as putting his hand on Yamal's face to say something respectfully.
The controversy was set aside, and the Spanish defender was mature enough to accept defeat and congratulate his teammate on the Spanish national team as well.
Before the game, Carvajal had already spoken with the press and was asked about Yamal. "You don't forget anything," he told the journalists.
"Lamine is young and was not at all right in the days before a Clasico. Everyone tries to defend their own. He is a great kid, and I don't wish him the best tomorrow, obviously."
Despite his "wishes," Yamal ended up with the Super Cup, but Carvajal made it clear that this rivalry is nothing more than a sporting matter.
