Daniel Edelman Shares Emotional Message After Red Bulls Departure

Daniel Edelman quickly established himself as a fan favorite among Red Bull New York supporters after making a successful leap from the reserve team and becoming a first-team regular for four seasons.

As a Warren Township, New Jersey native, Edelman was raised 25 miles from Harrison's Sports Illustrated Stadium. When he pulled on the Red Bulls kit, he represented the connection between the club and its local supporters.

Edelman had lived the dream of representing his boyhood club. He played with an intensity and dedication that was apparent for all to see. The 22-year-old midfielder thrived on the drumbeat and choruses sung from the South Ward supporters section of Sports Illustrated Stadium.

His decisive penalty that eliminated the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew in round one of the 2024 MLS Cup playoffs will be remembered for some time, as will his importance in helping New York reach the 2024 MLS Cup final.

Nothing lasts forever. Edelman learned that when he was traded on Tuesday to St. Louis CITY SC in exchange for $850,000 in total general allocation money (GAM).

On Saturday, Edelman took to social media to express his feelings after his emotional departure from Red Bull New York.

He wrote the following message on Instagram:

"From the Academy, to Red Bulls II, to the past four years with the first team — RBNY will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play in my home state for my boyhood club, and I will cherish these memories forever.

To the fans and supporters…
Playing in front of you at Red Bull Arena was an honor and a privilege. I played with passion and heart and emptied the tank every time I stepped on the pitch. I’ll miss the energy from the South Ward, which was always electric.

To my teammates, coaches, and everyone behind the scenes…
Thank you for challenging me every day and pushing me to be a better person and player. I grew up alongside many of you, and I will always appreciate the support and belief you showed in me.

Wearing #75 meant everything to me. Being trusted with the captain’s armband at 21 years old and earning over 100 appearances was the thrill of a lifetime. I have so many memories, but winning the Eastern Conference Championship and the run to MLS Cup in 2024 sits at the top of the list. Scoring the winning penalty to knock off the defending champs in front of our home fans was incredibly special — the loudest I’ve ever heard Red Bull Arena. Even though we came up just short in the final, I’m confident those lessons will help propel me as my journey continues.

While this goodbye is emotional, I’m super excited for the next chapter with St. Louis CITY SC and the opportunity ahead in such a vibrant soccer community.

Thank you for everything. Red Runs Deep. Forever."

Given his energetic playing style and high commitment level, it wouldn't be surprising if Edelman quickly endears himself to St. Louis City supporters.
