Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks, and Atletico Madrid are hoping to sign him.
According to journalist Ruben Uria, his future at the club will depend on the managerial situation. The journalist believes that Romero could look to stay at the club if Tottenham persist with Ange Postecoglou as their manager next season. However, he will look to do everything in his power to leave the club if the Australian is sacked.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Tottenham are yet to decide on the future of their manager.
“The key lies in who will be the Tottenham manager. If Postecoglou stays, I think Cuti won’t leave. Now, if there’s a change of coach, Cuti will do everything possible to leave,” he said to El Desmarque.
“He wants to live in Madrid, not London. He wants to play for Atleti and has already spoken with Cholo Simeone several times. A meeting is planned between Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and Levy to find out if they can sit down and negotiate or if the player will stay in London.”
They have had a disastrous Premier League campaign, and they finished 17th in the league table. There is no doubt that a change would be ideal at this stage. However, the Australian manager helped them win a major trophy after several years.
Tottenham secured Champions League qualification by winning the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United last month, and that remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy is willing to give the manager another opportunity to turn things around.
Romero is one of the best players at the club, and keeping him would be an absolute priority for the north London club. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham decided to stick with their current manager in order to convince the player to stay.
