Sir Matt Busby oversaw United’s rise from the heartbreak of the 1958 Munich air disaster to European Cup glory ten years later, rebuilding the squad with the steadfast support of assistant Jimmy Murphy.

He won five First Division titles and two FA Cups during his time as manager.

In the same year that Busby won the European Cup, he was awarded a knighthood.
