David de Gea has remained connected to Manchester United since his departure following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

The goalkeeper, who now plays for Italian outfit Fiorentina, returned to Old Trafford last summer as the Italian side and the Red Devils met in a pre-season match.

Away from the field, de Gea continues to be linked to Manchester United with a move back to Old Trafford being the only one he would consider if he was to leave Italy and return to England.

At 35, a move would have to be within the next couple of years although current depth within the goalkeeper position do make a transfer less likely.

Now, the goalkeeper has further established links with Manchester United through giving Bruno Fernandes, who captains the side, the middle finger.

Commenting on X, as the club celebrated Fernandes’ achievement of reaching five Player of the Year awards (which overtakes de Gea’s four), the shot-stopper commented “Bruno” followed by the middle finger.

It is likely that this comment was meant in a sarcastic manner although some supporters have speculated between it being a joke and it meaning something more serious.

Both David de Gea and Bruno Fernandes have been pivotal to Manchester United in different eras of the club with the goalkeeper being a huge part of United’s success in the 2010s whilst the attacking midfielder has remained at the centre of the club’s operations in this decade.

The two have helped to bring great success and attention to the club and, although they operate at different positions on the pitch, their influence can not be understated across the entire field.

Focus could now switch to see if Fernandes responds to the comment or whether it is left for supporters to speculate about.
