David de Gea mocks Manchester City

Much humour has been shown towards Manchester City in the past 24 hours with David de Gea now weighing in on the laughter.

City, alleged to have breached the Premier League’s financial regulations more than 100 times, have been found guilty of virtually all the charges according to reports.

That bombshell news has stirred the pot of speculation across the football world, and has asked the question: should Manchester United inherit the Premier League titles where they finished second behind Manchester City during the investigation timeframe?

David de Gea was part of both the 2011/12 and 2017/18 Manchester United squads that finished second in the league behind City, with the confirmation of sanctions set to reveal whether the goalkeeper will be Premier League champion twice more.

Breaking his silence on that matter, on X, the United legend said: “So…

“Let’s talk.

“How many Premier League titles have I won then?”

The answer to that currently is one, which came in the 2012/13 campaign (Sir Alex Ferguson’s last in charge of the club).

Should United inherit the other two titles, that total would increase to three, an increase of 300% on the current figure.

Away from Premier League titles, other trophies could come into question too.

FA Cups, Carabao Cups, Community Shields. Each trophy that Manchester United could be eligible to win as a result of City’s breaches will likely be brought into the spotlight and could be awarded to the club.

That process is not likely to start for some months, however, with the official verdict still to come and with Manchester City holding the option to appeal the decision, which they will likely do.

For now, patience will be valuable. United can be assured of one thing, though: everything will work out in the end, no matter how much time that takes.
