David Silva had more than a few meetings with Arsenal during his Manchester City days.

The Spaniard’s time in the Premier League was exceptional, and he is still one of the most revered players to ever pull on a City shirt, right up there with Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, and Vincent Kompany.

After leaving the Sky Blues, Silva went on to play for Real Sociedad before hanging up his boots in 2023. Despite being retired for two years now, it has not stopped him from handing out praise to players he admires.

This time around, it was aimed at someone who left a real mark at Arsenal.

David Silva names Santi Cazorla as the best crosser he has ever seen

Arsenal released Santi Cazorla in 2018 after he spent six years at the club.

It did not take long for him to become a fan favourite at the Emirates when he first arrived, and even though it has been seven years since he left, that admiration has not faded.

Cazorla was a special talent. Like Silva, he was rarely the biggest player on the pitch, but few could match his technical ability or creativity in possession.

One part of his game that stood out was his crossing. Comfortable with either foot, he delivered consistently from open play, corners and free kicks alike.

Silva clearly took note of that quality during their careers. Asked by Champions League social media to pick the best crosser while building his perfect player, he replied without hesitation: “Santi Cazorla!”

Santi Cazorla has a clear path to return to Arsenal

Santi Cazorla is still playing at 40, turning out for Real Oviedo in La Liga.

Although there has not been any official announcement yet, it looks like this will be his final season as a player. Most expect him to call time on his career when the campaign wraps up.

Plenty of Arsenal fans would love to see him back at the club in some sort of coaching role, and that opportunity might actually be there for him.

Mikel Arteta has already mentioned that he would welcome Cazorla’s “unbelievable energy and knowledge” into his coaching set-up at Arsenal.

Right now, though, it is just wishful thinking. Nothing has happened yet.
