Daniele De Rossi is highly disappointed by Roma’s loss to Empoli and insists the Giallorossi have ‘many things’ to improve, but he has already met new director Florent Ghisolfi.

De Rossi was extremely unhappy with Roma‘s loss to Empoli in the last game of the season and did nothing to hide his frustration during a post-match interview with DAZN.

“Many things make the difference in football, and there are too many things we must improve,” said DDR as quoted by ForzaRoma.info.

“We are talking of defensive focus, keeping the ball too long, and not producing enough shots on target. We can’t make counterattacks and don’t even make an attempt. This is something you pay for at this level.”

So, which things must the Giallorossi improve next season?

“We’ll assess many things. We will prepare by watching this game, and not only,” said De Rossi.

“But this game has something to tell us. We played with four and three defenders, but it didn’t change much. The goal they scored in the final minutes it’s not something we can concede, even with four defenders. We were too weak in the duel inside the box. We can’t concede a goal like that in Serie A. We must think about this, it is something that hurts me. I didn’t want to finish the season like this.”

Roma appointed a new sporting director this week, Florent Ghisolfi, and De Rossi has already spoken with the Frenchman about possible reinforcements.

“We have spoken, and we spent an afternoon together, talking about the team and some names,” the coach revealed.

“We are in sync but have time to discuss opportunities and availability. However, it is premature and disrespectful to talk about this now. I can’t say I didn’t like the game tonight, but you can’t lose a match like this if you want to become a big team.”

Empoli’s win means De Rossi’s ex-coach, Eusebio Di Francesco, has been relegated with Frosinone, given that Udinese secured a 1-0 win at the Stadio Stirpe tonight.

“He didn’t deserve to be relegated this season. The fact that this late goal punished a person and a coach I respect, hurts even more,” concluded De Rossi.

Roma have finished the season in sixth position, and Atalanta‘s win against Torino means the Giallorossi can no longer qualify for the Champions League because La Dea have secured a spot in the top four.
