The defeat at the Parc des Princes against PSG over the weekend has extinguished any hope of a title for Marseille, and Roberto De Zerbi’s future remains uncertain.

As Calciomercato.com write, the gap in the table between PSG and Marseille has risen to 19 points but it does not diminish the work done by De Zerbi. Now, he and his team have to defend second place from Monaco, Nice and Paulo Fonseca’s Lyon, to get a Champions League spot.

De Zerbi has brought Marseille back to a high level with a style of football that impresses and entertains. L’OM paid his €6m release clause to get him from Brighton and he signed a multi-year contract with them.

The likes of Højbjerg, Rabiot and Greenwood arrived in the summer with Marseille beating competition to get them. In the winter mercato Bennacer, Gouiri and Dedic were added to the squad, showing that the club are willing to back the Italian coach.

However, De Zerbi is an ambitious coach with a strong personality. He loves studying football and its evolutions, trying and believing. In the summer of 2021 he decided to leave the comfort zone of Sassuolo for a challenge as fascinating as it is complicated in Ukraine at Shakhtar Donetsk.
