Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dropped some huge Chelsea transfer news after a very dramatic Club World Cup game.

Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup last night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!

Sources: Chelsea keen on signing veteran goalkeeper this summer as a Mike Maignan alternative!

Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.

And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!

Chelsea win 4-1

The Blues won the tie 4-1 after extra time and will be glad to see the back of this one. It was a classic cup competition game with all the drama that came with it and a sending off too.

But there is no doubt that the weather and the long stoppages made it impossible for the players to refocus and continue the game.

Meanwhile…

After the game, Romano had some pretty big Chelsea news to deliver!

Finally, the Jamie Gittens transfer saga is close to actually being over, with Romano calling the here we go done deal on it.

Nothing has been announced yet of course, but it sounds like it soon will be.

Romano posted on X overnight:

‘Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has completed main part of medical as new Chelsea player as planned.

‘£55m deal done.’

£55m is a lot for Gittens, but he is a very promising young player and does suit what Maresca wants. Interesting though that they ended up paying what Dortmund have asked for all along.
