As we edge closer to the start of the 2025/26 season, life at Chelsea appears rosy, with the club back in the Champions League and having lifted the Europa Conference League and, more recently, the Club World Cup. It has also been an active transfer window at Stamford Bridge, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have made the breakthrough in their pursuit of Dutch defender Jorrel Hato, with a deal in place between Ajax and Chelsea. (More to Follow).
Chelsea enjoyed a memorable end to the 2024/25 season, with Enzo Maresca’s men securing a top-four finish and winning the Conference League. The West London club then went on to win the Club World Cup.
Chelsea have understandably looked to strengthen ahead of the new season, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez all joining. Several players have also left, including Joao Felix.
Romano has revealed his signature here we go, with Chelsea striking a deal with Ajax for a fee in excess of £34.5 million. Hato’s travel and medical have been scheduled as he prepares to finalise his move to Stamford Bridge. It appears Chelsea have got their man, and Hato has secured the transfer he was hoping for.
Hato has been previously described as “technically brilliant.” His progression has been outstanding, and his signing is a real coup for Maresca. He is quick, robust and reads the game well. He excels in one-on-one defending and is not afraid of the physical side of the game.
His timing of tackles is another major asset. At just 19 years old, Hato’s potential is enormous, and it feels like Chelsea may have pulled off a real steal in this transfer window.
