Details of Paulo Fonseca’s Contract at Milan Revealed

Last night’s 3-3 draw against Salernitana made for a sorrowful end to Stefano Pioli’s managerial tenure at Milan. After his last game in charge of the Rossoneri, the 58-year-old dropped a bombshell when admitting he could continue his coaching career in the Premier League. 

But the Milan fans have no time to think of the past. They’re anxiously awaiting the club’s announcement of Pioli’s successor. It’ll, in all likelihood, be Paulo Fonseca. The Portuguese tactician has swept aside competition and could soon pen a multi-year contract at San Siro.

According to Calciomercato, Fonseca will sign a three-year deal worth €3 million per season, with the signature expected to arrive in the coming days. Only the final details are missing. Milan would bring the 51-year-old on a two-year contract with an option to extend for another season.

That’s the last thing they must sort out before scheduling the former Roma manager’s presentation. 

Fonseca’s impending arrival has caused mixed feelings among the Milan faithful. Opinions are extremely divided, especially as the 19-time Serie A champions have passed on the opportunities to snap Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi.

There’s an argument that Milan conceded a death sentence to their Scudetto hopes by putting their trust in Fonseca. He has never made a standout achievement in Europe’s traditional top-five leagues, finishing outside the Serie A top four in both seasons in charge of Roma.

However, he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Milan must rally behind their new manager and stay united to challenge Inter for the title next season.
