Diogo Dalot has quietly become one of the most important pieces in Manchester United’s rebuild.
The right-back has established himself as a player whose reliability has allowed multiple managers to solve big problems across the back line without losing balance or intensity in the system.
Under Erik ten Hag, the Portugal international was asked to step away from his natural role on the right and cover at left-back when both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were sidelined with injuries.
Despite the tactical challenge of operating on his weaker side, Dalot’s work rate, positioning and passing range ensured United could still build attacks down that flank while remaining solid defensively.
Now, under Ruben Amorim, Dalot has again shown his flexibility.
Initially trusted as the first-choice right-back in the new regime, he has more recently shifted back over to the left.
Now Dalot is operating opposite Amad Diallo in a system that places huge emphasis on the full-backs’ ability to step inside, link play and still defend wide spaces.
As such, his willingness to adjust role and side has made him a key reference point in the starting eleven.
United’s recent run of positive performances has only underlined that value.
The Red Devils look more cohesive in and out of possession, with the full-backs helping Amorim’s side control territory, sustain attacks and limit transitions.
Dalot has been central to that, offering consistency in a period of tactical evolution and squad reshaping at Old Trafford.
That sense of stability appears to be mirrored in his life away from the pitch as well.
Diogo Dalot and his partner have announced on Instagram that they are expecting their second child, sharing a gender reveal where sky blue balloons emerged from a giant white box, confirming the couple will be welcoming a baby boy.
The post has been met with warm messages of support, reflecting the care and love around the family at this special time.
For Manchester United, it is another example of a core player who seems settled, motivated and fully invested in both the project and his personal life in Manchester.
With the Red Devils now getting back to their image of the Sir Alex Ferguson days as a family club, this news will no doubt be celebrated by the right-back’s teammates on his return from international duty.
