Diogo Dalot is one of the players at Manchester United who has formed a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Dalot, who joined the club from AC Milan in 2021, has made 191 appearances for the Red Devils in his time at the club, scoring nine goals.

Furthermore, prior to his spell in the first-team, Dalot had been in the United academy having featured for Manchester United’s Under-23s during the years of 2018 and 2019.

However, during the reign of Ruben Amorim, who the defender is related to, there is more competition than ever to perform well and deliver success for the team.

With this in mind, Dalot has to ensure his performances are good whilst also ensuring that he is bringing key qualities to the pitch.

One key quality that the Portuguese international has brought to Manchester United is his leadership skills which can be seen during Sunday’s game against Aston Villa where he was captain during the second half (when Bruno Fernandes departed due to injury).

Now, following the fixture, Diogo Dalot has been reflecting on the responsibility and what it meant to him.

Speaking to the club’s media on the official Manchester United website, the defender stated: “Yeah, it’s obviously a very proud moment.

“I look back to the first day that I arrived here and it was not even in my mind to one day wear the armband of this club.

“Obviously I wanted to build my career here and be a very important player for the team.

“I think me being able to go through every phase that a football player can be at a club makes it even more special.

“But at the same time, I know that we have very good players that can represent the standards of the club and I’m just happy to be one of them.”

Now, attention could turn to Ruben Amorim to see if he picks the defender to be captain against Newcastle United.
