Ange Postecoglou is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham despite Europa League glory

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is still kept in the dark regarding his future at N17. The Australian made history after becoming only the third Spurs manager to win European silverware. In an ideal world, Big Ange’s job would have been safe and he would be given the legendary status at Hotspur Way. But, due to the poor domestic campaign that his team has endured, the 59-year-old is still facing an uncertain future.

The Lilywhites managed to do the unthinkable and win the Europa League last week. The historic win against Manchester United in the final ended the club’s long-standing trophy drought as well. Another positive was that Ange Postecoglou delivered on his promise of winning a trophy in his second season at a club.

However, the astonishing achievement might not be enough for Big Ange to save his job at N17. Spurs finished the Premier League campaign just a place above the relegation zone and registered 22 losses along the way. The domestic campaign was full of misery and it was a complete contrast to the European journey Ange’s men endured.

Ian Wright wants Tottenham to stick with Ange Postecoglou in the summer

The Europa League trophy parade showed Daniel Levy that most of the fans are actually backing Ange Postecoglou to stay at the club. Even the Spurs players have not missed a chance to back the Australian publicly and it is believed that the dressing room is eager to build on the Europa League success next season with Big Ange at the helm.

Now, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has also urged the Lilywhites to stick with the ex-Celtic boss in the summer. Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast (as transcribed by TBR Football), Wright said,

“I was pleased for them. And you know, hopefully this is a springboard for Ange, simply because I worked with him in the Euros and he’s a really lovely bloke. I spent a lot of time with him. And how he is and how you feel your perception of him is probably, he’s just a normal bloke. He’s just coaching, doing the best he can, just have a pint.”

Ian Wright suggested that he was pleased for Tottenham after they won the Europa League. The Arsenal legend also suggested that the final win would be a springboard for Ange Postecoglou and that the ex-Celtic boss is a good person. Wright then reminded everyone about the time he spent with Big Ange during the Euros 2024 and insisted that Ange is doing the best he can and wants to succeed at N17 no matter what.

Well, Daniel Levy now has a big decision to make regarding the future of the Spurs manager. It was reported earlier that Levy was leaning towards sacking Big Ange, despite the Europa League result. However, the Spurs chairman might have second thoughts about that after watching the fans sing the Australian’s name proudly at the trophy parade.

  • The Lilywhites have lined up some potential replacements in case Ange Postecoglou gets the sack. Fulham boss Marco Silva and former Ajax manager Francesco Farioli are the favourites to replace the 59-year-old at the helm in the summer if Levy decides to pull the plug. The fans will hope that the managerial outcome is decided quickly as Spurs will look to close the gap on their rivals next season.
